Facing the serious consequences of global warming, climate change has emerged as a real global challenge, which also generates new business opportunities. The flexible mechanisms of the Kyoto Protocol provide for transferable credits derived from greenhouse gas emission reduction projects. Two project based mechanisms introduced under Kyoto Protocol are: Joint Implementation (JI) and Clean Development Mechanism (CDM).

JI和CDM不再仅仅是理论概念。实际项目已经签约并执行。工业国家、组织和公司可在发达国家（JI）及发展中国家（CDM）投资这些避免/减少排放量的项目。发展中国家可以通过清洁发展机制获得新的可持续发展的资金来源，而工业化国家企业则可承担其义务减少排放量。

JI and CDM are no longer theoretical concepts. Real projects are contracted and implemented. With these mechanisms industrialised countries, organisations or companies can buy credits out of investing emission avoiding/reducing projects in another developed countries (under JI) as well as in developing countries (under CDM). Through CDM projects developing countries may gain a new source for financing their sustainable development, whereas companies in industrialised countries can supplement their commitments to reduce emissions at home.
